De achtjarige Maia is het liefst alleen met haar verhalen. Ze leest, speelt games en kijkt films, alles om haar honger naar verhalen te stillen. Verhalen zijn namelijk spannend, maar lopen altijd goed af.
Maia twijfelt of dat in de grotemensenwereld ook gebeurt. Zo groeit haar liefde voor verhalen samen met haar angst voor de ‘echte’ wereld. Naast Maia staat Ótti. Hij is altijd bij haar en wil haar beschermen. Alleen verandert hij de laatste tijd vaak van vorm en begrijpt niet waarom. Hij wordt soms zo zwaar dat hij een blok aan Maia’s been vormt. Als Ótti maar niet zo uit proportie groeit dat hij Maia’s hele blikveld overneemt…

The more she reads, the scarier the real world seems. Fortunately, Maia has Ótti at her side – he’s always around to protect her. Lately, though, he’s been getting heavier and bigger… and bigger.
